An Overview of Vincent Orange's Leadership as Chairperson of ANC 5D

Vincent Orange is a well-known figure in Washington, D.C. politics, having held numerous positions in the city's government over the years. One of his most recent roles has been as the Chairperson of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 5D, a position he has held since 2017.

Orange was the key figure in the city’s efforts to secure the Major League Baseball team, which resulted in the Washington Nationals moving to D.C. in 2005.


After leaving the Council in 2012, Orange continued to be involved in D.C. politics, running unsuccessfully for the Mayor in 2014 and later serving as a member of the D.C., Board of Elections. He was elected Chairperson ANC 5D in 2017 and has been re-elected to the position twice since then.

One of the key issues that ANC 5D has faced during Orange’s tenure is public safety. The covered commission has experienced a significant increase in violent crime in recent years, with many residents feeling unsafe in their neighborhoods. Orange has worked closely with local law enforcement to address this, including hosting community meetings with police officials to discuss crime trends and strategies for prevention.

Chamber of commerce and has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Boys, and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington and the United Negro College Fund.


Despite his many accomplishments, Vincent Orange has not been without controversy. He has faced criticism for his ties to developers and his role in pushing for the controversial sports betting contract while serving on the Board of Elections. However, Orange has always maintained that his action was motivated by the desire to do what was best for the city and its residents.
