Ward 5 is a diverse neighborhood located in the heart of Washington, D.C. With a population of over 75,000 residents, the community is home to several prominent members, including Gordon Fletcher and Vincent Orange.   Gordon Fletcher is a lifelong resident of Ward 5 and has been a community leader for over two decades. He is a graduate of the University of the District of Columbia and is an active member of the Ward 5 Democratic Party. Fletcher has held various positions in the community, including serving as a board member of the Lamond Riggs Citizens Association and as a member of the Ward 5 Education Council. Fletcher is also a committed advocate for affordable housing and has worked tirelessly to ensure that all residents of Ward 5 have access to safe and affordable housing. He joined the District of Columbia Housing Authority Board of Commissioners in 2019 after Mayor Muriel Bowser selected him for the position. Vincent Orange is a well-known politician who served as a Ward 5 member and Councilmember in Washington, D.C., for many years. He was born on June 21, 1957, in Washington, D.C., and attended Gonzaga College High School.  Vincent Orange entered politics after earning his degree and held several posts in the local administration. He was first elected to the D.C. Council in 1998, representing Ward 5, which covers a large portion of the northeastern section of the city. During his time on the council, he became known for his strong advocacy for economic development and job creation in the district. One of Vincent Orange's notable contributions while on the Council was the building of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. He played a key role in securing the funding and overseeing the construction of the center, which opened in 2003 and has since become one of the city's most important venues for conferences and events.
